1. This agreement
These terms are between you and The Long Way ("we", "us"), the developer of the app. They are not an agreement with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its contents.
By downloading or using the app you accept these terms; if you do not accept them, do not use the app.
2. Licence
We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on any Apple-branded device that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store's Usage Rules. The licence does not let you redistribute the app, rent or sell it, or attempt to derive its source code except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it despite this restriction.
The app and its content remain ours. Your data does not: the trips and routes you record are yours, they stay on your device, and nothing in these terms gives us any claim to them.
3. The app is free
Every feature of The Long Way is available to every user at no cost.
There is no paid tier, no subscription and no registration requirement.
4. Tips
The tip jar offers five one-off amounts. A tip is a voluntary thank-you payment to the developer. It is not a donation to a charity or non-profit, and it buys nothing: no feature, no perk, no status, no badge. You can tip as often or as seldom as you like, including never.
Current prices are shown in the app before you buy, in your local currency, and Apple charges your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
- One-time only. Tips are one-time purchases. Nothing renews, nothing recurs, and there is no subscription to cancel — we do not offer one.
- Refunds. Handled by Apple, under Apple's policy. Because a tip delivers no product, we cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases and have no access to your payment details — any request has to go to Apple directly.
- Nothing to restore. A tip grants no entitlement, so there is nothing stored against your Apple ID to bring back on a new device, and no "Restore Purchases" step to perform.
5. Use it safely
The app records trips and can plan and follow routes. It is an aid, not an instruction. Do not interact with the app while driving or riding, and do not follow a route in preference to the road in front of you. Obey traffic law and road signs, watch the actual conditions, and stop somewhere safe if you need to interact with your phone.
Routes come from third-party routing services and can be wrong: a road may be closed, one-way, private, unsurfaced, seasonal, or unsuitable for your vehicle.
GPS accuracy varies and can fail entirely in tunnels, dense cities and remote terrain. You are responsible for your own judgement about where it is safe and lawful to travel.
6. Your data
All application data is stored only on your device — see our Privacy Policy for the detail.
There is no cloud copy and no backup service of ours, so if you delete the app, reset your phone, or lose it, the recorded data are gone and we cannot recover them.
Back up your data regularly, using the app's export feature.
7. Third-party services
The app uses third-party map and routing services, named in the Privacy Policy. Your use of the app through them is also subject to their terms, and we are not responsible for their availability, accuracy or content. If one of them stops working, or is blocked in your region, route planning or map display may stop working with it, and we will try to ship an equivalent replacement in an app update.
8. No warranty
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the maps, routes or distances it shows are accurate.
We are solely responsible for any warranty, express or implied, that cannot be disclaimed under applicable law. Apple has no warranty obligation of any kind for this app, and nothing was paid for it.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited or excluded under the law of your country.
9. Maintenance and support
We are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for the app. Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support services.
10. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, including loss of recorded data. We are responsible for addressing any third-party claim that the app, or your permitted use of it, infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, and for any claim that the app fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, arises under product liability law, or arises under consumer protection or similar legislation. Apple is not responsible for addressing any such claim.
11. Apple as third-party beneficiary
Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and upon your acceptance of them Apple has the right (and is deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
12. Changes
We may update these terms. The effective date at the top of the page changes when we do, and continuing to use the app after that means you accept the revised terms. Material changes will also appear in the app's release notes.
